Bravely back Everton to win at White Hart Lane
A weekend that looked to have been set up quite nicely for Tottenham has got off to a miserable start, and not just because bitter rivals Arsenal are starting to look like genuine title contenders - they are now only [4.0] to win the league.
Spurs probably expected an opportunity to open a gap on several rivals for fourth, with Aston Villa not in action, Liverpool playing later in the day and Manchester City expected to flop at Chelsea but their 4-2 win has put pressure on Spurs to deliver against Everton.
Even the Toffees could yet find themselves in the mix. They climbed the table after Christmas last year and victory at White Hart Lane tomorrow would leave them just five points behind Spurs with a game in hand, having trailed by a greater margin just a week into the season.
They had a miserable midweek in Europe, losing in Lisbon, but their domestic form has been fantastic. David Moyes' men are comfortably the Premier League's form side, having won five of their last six matches, with top-four teams Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United among the vanquished.
Tottenham have themselves returned to winning ways with victories over Wigan and Bolton, as Harry Redknapp finally twigged that Roman Pavlyuchenko was a bit useful, the Russian seizing rare opportunities with four goals in 107 minutes on the pitch. He's [3.25] to find the net again with a first league start this season on the cards.
We're still unconvinced by Spurs though. They've won just two of their last seven in the league, while doubts over Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch's fitness and talk of a virus hitting the squad offer further reasons not to back them at [2.14].
If you're willing to lay at that price, it's worth considering, but our punt on the game is going to be even bolder - betting on Everton at [4.1]. However, it's a risk we can afford to take after successfully laying Chelsea and backing both teams to score in Stoke/Arsenal.
Everton have won on their last three league visits to the Lane, with last year's 1-0 triumph being the only home defeat that Redknapp suffered in his first season at the club.
They've also had plenty of fun in the capital already this season: becoming the first team to take league points off Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, the second to get a result against Arsenal at the Emirates - where they were unlucky not to win - and beating West Ham.
