Don't back unpredictable Spurs to beat Bolton
Tottenham hate it at the Reebok. They've visited ten times without winning in 90 minutes once, their only triumph coming after extra-time in a Carling Cup match in 2004.
The patronising explanation - that they're a bunch of southern softies who "don't like it up them" on a cold day out north of the Watford Gap - is given substance by the equally dreadful record held in Bolton by their London rivals West Ham.
Admittedly, Bolton have gradually evolved but even new boss Owen Coyle, praised for his passion for easy-on-the-eye football, isn't naïve enough to make the club completely turn their back on the physical approach that ensures that no opponent looks forward to visiting the Reebok.
Even if the prospect isn't as intimidating as it once was, Spurs' previous experience of travelling to face a side set-up by Coyle wasn't pleasant, as they threw away a 4-1 aggregate lead in the second leg of their Carling Cup semi-final against Burnley last year by losing 3-0, before recovering in extra-time.
Their differing fortunes in the league shouldn't prevent you from trusting the Trotters either, as Spurs have let themselves down against strugglers numerous times this season - being held at home by Hull and twice losing tamely to Wolves.
Harry Redknapp's men had to come from behind twice just to take a point in the league fixture between the two and there's far more reason to fancy the hosts now: Bolton have kept three straight home clean sheets, the Lilywhites have won just twice in eight and failed to score in their last two.
So if you're willing to lay at prices greater than evens then doing so with Spurs at [2.14] is arguably your best option, though Bolton are definitely worth considering to get the win at [4.0].
Even if you expect the visitors to progress, there's value in backing Bolton to score first at [2.18] - they have done on eight of the last nine times that they've welcomed Spurs.
