The best bets in the football pyramid this weekend
Those in the know at Betting@Betfair have specialists on every league down to the Blue Square Premier. This week, they cast their expert eyes over the Championship, the FA Cup and the solitary League Two fixture this weekend...
Championship
Despite his analysis of Thierry Henry's handball, it's difficult to imagine that Keane has all the answers. After all, the team he manages have won only one league game out of 17. They are four points away from safety at present, courtesy of being the division's draw kings with 10 one pointers already in the bag. They travel to Cardiff this weekend, with the hosts clear favourites at 1.82 to pile more misery on Keano. Betfarians must have great faith in Mr Keane because despite their dismal season thus far a match will still be available at 5.5 on Ipswich to be relegated. That could prove to be a very big price should Roy Keane discover first hand "what goes around comes around."
League Two
Macclesfield will be counting on three points against Grimsby. They should risk prized asset John Rooney - relegated to the bench recently to protect him for the January sales - for this one. Boss Keith Alexander has been promised funds, so there is an element of playing for places. The Mariners might have a new permanent manager, Neil Woods, but he is not fresh, having been caretaker. He fails the "new broom wins first game" criteria on that basis. Back the hosts at 2.16.
The FA Cup
Gus Poyet's honeymoon period as Brighton boss lasted just two games. The Uruguayan oversaw morale-boosting wins against Southampton and Wycombe, but in the last week the team's defensive demons have resurfaced. Brighton still have big problems at the back, so 1.63 looks too short to beat a Rushden and Diamonds side on good form. Lay Brighton at 1.69.
The non-league side with a serious chance of turning over the odds on telly are the same one as last round, Northwich Victoria. But they're nowhere near as long this time at 3.5 but are playing Chris Sutton's lowly League Two Lincoln, who have scored just two goals in their last six games.
