Terry axed - punters lump on Rio for skipper

The FA have confirmed that John Terry has been stripped of the England captaincy by Fabio Capello and Rio Ferdinand is now the [1.25] favourite to lead the Three Lions out against USA in their World Cup opener.

The current vice-captain was backed as high as [9.8] earlier this week but is now the overwhelming favourite, with Capello hinting that he saw no reason to change the existing pecking order beyond axing Terry.

Second favourite Steven Gerrard is miles behind at [8.0] and Wayne Rooney ([15.0]) and Frank Lampard ([36.0]) are even further adrift.

Former captain David Beckham can be backed at [75.0] to return to the role, while you can also bet on Gareth Barry at [95.0]. Terry is [50.0] to get the armband back.

But who do YOU think will be the captain in South Africa - have your say by clicking here to bet.

Problem with picking Rio is he tends to go missing when important people are looking for him ! ! Remember ?
How will Fabio be able to find him when he needs him ?
